Woodside Campground is located just inland from from the nearby Gerstle Cove Marine Sanctuary in Salt Point State Park, is a large, pine tree shaded campground with 79 campsites. While many of the campsites in Woodside Campground are pretty private as it is, there are 20 walk-in campsites within the campground that can offer some additional privacy. Woodside Campground is crisscrossed with multiple hiking trails leading across Salt Point State Park and down to the beaches and cliffs overlooking the sea. Each campsite in Woodside Campground includes a picnic table, fire ring, food locker, and access to bathrooms.

Woodside Campground is only open through September 3rd in 2012 and will reopen at the end of June in 2013. Woodside Campground Bottom Line

Woodside Campground is a nice place to stop for the night while on a trip up the Northern California coast, however if you want scenic coastal views from your campsite you will not find them at this campground. The nearby Gerstle Cove Campground is a better alternative for scenic Coastal views. However, Woodside Campground is a good family camping destination due to the size of the campsites, the many hiking opportunities, and access to the nearby Gerstle Cove Marine Sanctuary.

Fun Facts

Just west of the Woodside campground in Salt Point State Park is one of the first underwater parks in California.

Sandstone from Salt Point State Park was used in the construction of San Francisco’s streets and buildings throughout the mid 1800’s. The rocks at Gerstle Cove still hold eyebolts where the ships anchored while sandstone slabs were loaded aboard ships. Although the rocks were quarried over 150 years ago, quarried rocks can still be seen scattered along the shores north of Gerstle Cove.
